For the first time in the history of motorsports, nine of the nation's most celebrated champion drivers from four racing series (NASCAR, CART, NHRA and World of Outlaws) raced in spectacular Superman-themed race cars. This diecast is of the car Jeff Gordon drove when introduced his Superman paint scheme at the Winston All-Star race in Charlotte, NC where he finished third.

The "Superman Racing" theme, a celebration of the world's first and foremost superhero, was a year-long collaborative program created by Action Performance Companies, Inc., DC Comics and Warner Brothers Consumer Products. Superman teamed up with the faster-than-a-speeding-bullet world of motorsports because these "super" drivers possess as much strength, speed, energy and excitement as the Man of Steel himself. The SUPERMAN MEETS THE MOTORSPORTS CHAMPIONS story came to life when each of the nine champion drivers unveiled their "Superman Racing" vehicle during the 1999 season.
